The year began with banging wooden spoons and pots together on a mild new year’s eve outside on a porch in Victoria. It is one of the few memories I have from this year that doesn’t have a photograph attached to it.
It sounds cliche to say but photography is literally infused in almost every aspect of my life. I carry a camera around now almost every time I leave the house, there is a community in Victoria of photographers and when you are new to city it is so valuable to have instant friends. Photography is truly a medium for friendship making. More than connections it taken me places I never could have dreamed up this year. It brought me to try scuba diving, took me California road tripping, and has even influenced my wardrobe; rotating four wedding outfits approximately six times. Taking photos is the only reason I got myself an iPhone in March, which I think is note worthy here because of how technology influences life so drastically, and how instagram is changing the way I share my personal work.
My life would look a whole lot different if I wasn’t a photographer, and I don’t like to imagine what that would mean.
I owe the biggest thank you’s to all the people I’ve worked for this year. I say it every year, and each time sincerely, it isn’t easy allowing a stranger into your life with a big camera, and the photos below really are a collaboration. 2014 has been the most hectic, and most rewarding year as a photographer yet. I am proud of the work we’ve made together.
I am now settled in Victoria, roaming around Vancouver Island for the next little bit. I’m taking three maybe four weddings back in Toronto next year mostly depending on timing. I have two scheduled trips back as of right now for work. I’m booking weddings and commercial work primarily on the island, gulf islands, and across mainland British Columbia. I’ll be in the UK and Germany in September/Early October, and in the Caribbean by the end of that month with weddings in between. I have room in my schedule for a little more travel, and about 20 to 22 weddings total, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
It’s a little early for a tribute to 2014 weddings, but I’m already looking forward to 2015 .
