Waterloo Wedding Photographer – Mike and Summer

Summer was working at Molly Bloom’s the day she met Mike. Just an average day as a waitress, but one customer changed that. When I asked Mike about that day he just said how it was impossible to ignore Summer’s greens eyes. This little tidbit of knowledge I tucked away from our first meeting, but I knew that I wanted to incorporate it in some way into their wedding story. I always shoot a bridal portrait and I have a couple great ones of Summer. But this one stands out. It is completely non-traditional and one of my favourites from the day.

I truly strive as a Waterloo wedding photographer and a creative to create photographs that not only document a day, but document who you are and part of your story. That is why I spend so much time getting to know my couples so I can make photographs like the one below.

Summer and Mike put together such a unique day at the Delta Kitchener -Waterloo Hotel just south of Waterloo Ontario. Their wedding had a fifties pin-up feel with gum ball machines, and seriously awesome hair styling. But what I love most about Summer is her enthusiasm. She knew she wanted a 1950s Belair to take pictures with at the wedding, so the week before she visited a car show and recruited her dream vehicle to make an appearance that day. Through pure positive thinking the rain held off and we got those portraits. I love that, when everything works out just like it should.

I’ve decided for this wedding blog post to do something a little different. I’ve been challenging myself to nail my candid shots and  telling a story completely naturally, with no more input from me other than my decisions with the camera. This post apart from the portrait above is 100% journalistic, and no photos are staged or traditionally “posed.” Though we did have a fun portrait session in the afternoon, I really wanted to capture the enthusiasm, and the smiles that happened on their own.

This is Summer and Mike’s Wedding Day as it unfolded. Completely real from start to finish.
